A Little Local Love

In the last few years "Blessing Boxes" have become a popular thing in communities to offer necessities for people in need at any hour of the day, any day of the week. In Van Buren County, where I live, there are three blessing boxes that members of the community fill with food, bottled water, baby formula, diapers, and all kinds of things people need on a daily basis but might not have due to the circumstances of life. The idea is that you "take what you need, leave what you can, and above all be blessed. It is a super easy way to meet the needs and bless a person in your area that you may never know or meet at any time in your life.

Everyday I drive by the blessing box in downtown Clinton, and I always slow down as I pass it to check and see if it needs a little love. I'd always thought it was a great idea and I loved when I saw it implemented into our community, but this Christmas I saw it in action for the first time. I drove to my mom's office like I do everyday, but that day I noticed an older man quietly walking past the court house with a can of soup in one hand and some Ramen noodles in another. He wasn't asking for much, and he wasn't looking for any attention or asking for help. He just needed a little extra to get him through that season of life, and someone's donation to that blessing box met the needs of that man.

So if you ever see one of these cute boxes looking a little poor go through your cabinet and pick a few items to donate or if you want a project to do with your Sunday school class, create some little blessing bags and drop them off in a local blessing box. You never know when that small act of kindness will reach a person in desperate need of a little blessing.

Whether it's enough food to feed a family, a new clean tooth brush, a few diapers to cover until the next pay check, or the piece of candy we all crave every once in a while, treating others with this little act of kindness will always give us the perfect chance to impact others lives, and share a little love with those around us.

Love,

Brooke <3
